“Hi, I am Raul, the tutor at The Rock Club. I’m so excited and really looking forward to starting this new venture in Porthcawl and at The Y Centre.“
I’ve been running the Rock Club for some years now; devising and guiding group learning sessions, both locally and across the UK. I go to many places, encouraging and supporting people to sing and play; and I facilitate a variety of engaging music activities like pop up jam sessions, fun music-making days, guitar and drum circles, music production labs, and showcasing opportunities, for people to enjoy music.
The Rock Club @ The Y Centre
We provide tuition on drums, guitar, bass and keys, alongside a platform for young people to explore the aspects of group performance, practice their singing, jamming and showcasing their talent.
Whether your child is a budding musician or simply curious about learning a new skill, the club offers something for everyone: playing the drums, strumming a guitar, grooving with the bass, exploring the keys of a keyboard, or singing and discovering their unique voice.
The sessions are designed to be inclusive and engaging, providing hands-on practice and expert guidance.
Raul has safeguarding training and Enhanced DBS certificate and full insurance in place. For further information please contact The Y Centre on 01656 772166

“Porthcawl Rock Club was one of the key starting points in my journey, giving me the chance to busk, perform my first festival, and build my stage presence and confidence I still rely on today. The encouragement and opportunities I found there helped me discover a love for live music and collaboration. It played an important role in setting me on the path to becoming a professional session musician, producer, and songwriter.”Georgia Winter
“Rock club was a vital part of my development as a young musician, it gave me the opportunity to meet like minded people and play my first gigs which did wonders for my confidence. I had terrible stage fright before joining but the experience of performing live and jamming with other young musicians helped me come out of my shell and enabled me to continue along my musical path. Raul is an amazing mentor, I can’t recommend him enough!” Charlotte Fahey / Loafus
“Raul’s Rock Club taught me to play music with almost no prior knowledge. Raul has a talent for bringing young people together to make music. Within a couple of weeks, I was performing with a band at venues and festivals, giving me the confidence to get up on stage and play music with my friends.” Megan Hopkin
“Porthcawl Rock Club allowed me to build confidence at a very young age, learn a variety of musical skills, and work with other creatives. Learning how to share music with other people and collaborate as an ensemble is the most vital skill as a musician. Without that experience, I wouldn’t be where I am today as a professional recording musician and singer, performing on large stages and collaborating with diverse bands across a variety of genres.” Anna Arrieta
Rock club was an awesome experience with helped enrich my passion for music amongst similarly minded people, spuring me on to achieve grades in my drumming. All thanks to Raul. Ioan Pothecary
“Rock club was brilliant for me as a kid! It provided me with the opportunity to play live gigs and learn music from one of the most talented teachers, Raul! I made such good friends who I’m still friends with today. I don’t think I ever would have had the confidence to play live music if it wasn’t for rock club, it also opened lots of avenues for me to develop my musical ability and I played in lots of small festivals and countless venues! If you’re interested in music I would 100% give it a go!” Liv Thomas
“Playing the guitar as a teenager, I really wanted an environment to play with and meet other young musicians. Porthcawl Rock Club was that really inclusive environment where I could be myself, meet friends and learn new things, regardless of ability level. I felt supported and inspired to experiment with different music genres, as well as experiencing playing regular gigs in a band. Going to Rock Club became the highlight of my week. “ Dan Knowles
“I met so many great people and made life long friends at Rock Club, Raul was able to help us learn and develop both as people and musicians, I would recommend it to anyone who was interested!” Ewan Gregory
“Rock Club was the perfect place to collaborate with other young musicians, and helped me find people who had similar music tastes to me. I formed some very strong friendships there, and felt comfortable to push myself in musical areas I hadn’t considered before. I would highly recommend it for any young musician looking for a group or guidance on how to play in bands.” Lorcan Breheny
“Thanks to Raul I joined my first band 11 years ago at the age of 16. These were the first musical steps I had taken outside of my bedroom. Through Porthcawl Rock Club, we were able to play gigs that we never thought we’d play. Since then I’ve gone on to play festivals and venues across the U.K, do session work, earn a degree in music production and tour the south of France with my band.” Matthew Lee
